China has bid for a French car brand, says Stellantis boss

The car group Stellantis has turned down a bid for a French car brand, which boss Carlos Tavares does not want to name.

Stellantis is not leaving Italy. Alfa Romeo is also not for sale, and the same applies to one of the group's French brands.

This is how you can summarize Carlos Tavares' stream of speech, when he recently felt 'forced' to put down a lot of rumors about Stellanti's strategy.

In any case, these are stories that Stellantis 'doesn't think have anything to do with them'. Tavares calls the fact that Alfa Romeo should be for sale 'fake news'.

That's what Autocar writes.

Having said that, Stellantis' managing director would like to confirm that the group has received an inquiry from China. It went to one of the group's French car brands.

However, Tavares will not go into detail about which car brand is involved. But the possibilities are not terribly many to take off. Together with Peugeot and Citroën, the spin-off DS forms the French part of the group.

During the presentation of Alfa Romeo Milano, which due to trouble in Italy, has already had to change its name, Carlos Tavares also acknowledged that a 'western car brand' in 2021 will offer to buy Alfa Romeo in particular.

Furthermore, there has been internal disagreement in the Stellantis group. Several of the managers wanted to close down several of the 14 brands that make up the car group. It was especially up for debate when the PSA group merged with Fiat-Chrysler in 2021.
