Car owners have to pay – petrol increases by 3.2 kroner

New EU rules on quotas for CO2 already make petrol and diesel significantly more expensive from 2027. In 2031, the extra bill will be up to DKK 3.5 per litre.

It's no secret that petrol and diesel are getting more expensive. In fact, it already happens to the latter from New Year, when the government raises the tax.

But the EU is already catching up with more taxes that will also affect the price of petrol in 2027. Fuel becoming more expensive is due to a new quota system for CO2 called ETS2.

This is what Dansk Industri writes.

The new rules force Danes, who still use fossil fuels at the time, to pay an additional annual bill of DKK 5 billion.

This is due to a decision supported by a majority in the Danish Parliament. The decision includes these consumers in the quota system, which the EU enforces in 2027.

But how much will the price increase? That's a bit of a different question. For the extra 3.5 kroner a litre, it does not land on the gas station stands right away. They are introduced gradually.

Svenske Affärsvärlden writes on the basis of an analysis from the company Veyt that the quota system affects drivers a little too little. In 2031, fuel prices will have increased by up to SEK 5 compared to the current level.

If it is converted to Danish conditions, it corresponds to a liter price multiplied by 3.22 kroner. At the same time, electric car owners seem to be going free.

The current SVM government decided in December last year to keep the tax on the car type at bay. Even if, according to the plan, there must be no discount on electric cars by 2035 at the latest.

The price of fuel is not the only thing that will squeeze motorists' finances in the next few years. Towards 2026, the periodic taxes on all cars in Denmark will increase significantly. Read more about it here .
