Car brands build Formula 1 cars even though they are not approved

Andretti-Cadillac wants to get off to a flying start in Formula 1. That is why they are already building a Formula 1 car, even though their application to enter the sport has not actually been approved at all.

Updated 01.02.2023:
Andretti-Cadillac has now received a response to the team's Formula 1 application. Read more about it here.

Andretti-Cadillac is a collaboration that believes so much that the team will probably become an approved Formula 1 team, that the Americans are already developing a Formula 1 car.

Because although the international motor sports union, FIA, has said good for Andretti-Cadillac, approval from the Formula 1 organization itself is still pending.

However, the fact that the light is not as bright for the eventual 11th Formula 1 team as one might think does not slow down Andretti-Cadillac.

The head of Andretti Global, Michael Andretti, tells The Athletic . In an interview, the American makes it clear that should the permission come, the team will start flying.

– Time is always a decisive factor in Formula 1. We work as fast as we possibly can to ensure that we have a competitive car and a strong team behind it, says Michael Andretti.

The potentially new Formula 1 team has already brought Formula 1 experience into the project. Among other things, Nick Chester, who played a decisive role when Renault won the world championship in 2005 and 2006, has been brought in as the team's technical director.

And that without knowing whether his efforts will ever get Andretti into Formula 1. The team itself is aiming for a place on the grid from 2025 or 2026.
