Car brand will build an electric car platform that can switch to petrol and diesel

The new platform, on which Stellantis will build 8 new electric cars for the time being, is versatile in all its simplicity.

The world's fourth-largest car group, Stellantis, says that the STLA Large Platform is made specifically for electric cars.

But the platform is not more specific than that both diesel and petrol cars can also be built on it.

This is stated by the car group in a press release .

With the new STLA structure, it is intended that the Stellantis brands – which include everything from Peugeot to Jeep – should be able to build everything from sedans to station wagons to SUVs and crossovers.

Jeep and Dodge will be the first brands to use the platform, as it spreads to the rest of the group's brands.

When it comes to electric cars, Stellantis promises a range of up to 800 kilometers and a 0 to 100 km/h time as far down as 'around the 2 seconds'.

The battery packs themselves will range in size from 85 to 118 kWh. While the charging technology will be up to 400 volts from the beginning. Later, it will become possible with 800 volts, which Porsche, among others, already uses.

But it must also be possible to build diesel, petrol and hybrid cars using the same technology. All in all, the new platform falls squarely in line with a landmark announcement from the Stellantis summit.

Back in November 2023, the group's chief executive, Carlos Tavares, said that Stellantis is ready to change its mind about electric cars.

Especially if both the political mood and the same among the rest of the population turn against electric cars in particular. Read more about it here .
