The international motorsport federation had turned the thumbs up. But the Formula 1 organization says no to Cadillac’s bid for an 11th team.
There are 10 teams in Formula 1. And it will continue to be that way. At least until 2028, when it will again be possible to apply for a starting position on the grid.
Andretti Formula Racing, which is supported by the General Motors brand Cadillac, has had its application to join from 2025 rejected.
This is stated by Formula 1 in a press release .
At the international motor sports federation, the FIA, the rejection does not exactly arouse enthusiasm. Not even with the president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who would like to see all 12 places in Formula 1 filled.

– The FIA had to beg and ask the car manufacturers to come in. We can’t just say no to them.
– We have permission in the regulations to have 12 teams. The tracks must have garages and enough space for 12 teams, the FIA president said back in autumn last year.
Although it is now established that Andretti-Cadillac may not enter Formula 1, the team is still developing a Formula 1 car. Read more about it here .
