BYD's new hybrid car promises over 2,000 kilometers on one tank

Now the numbers come from the Chinese. So the news must be taken with a grain of salt. At worst, a grain of salt. But BYD's ceilings are huge.

No car is a perpetual motion machine. But in the BYD Qin L DM-i and in the sister car Seal 06 DM-i, the brand promises a range of 2,100 kilometers. So on one full tank of petrol.

And it will be cheap. So for the car. The price starts at what corresponds to just DKK 94,640. For that kind of money you get a car with a small 1.5 liter petrol engine with 100 horsepower.

On the other hand, it works together with an electric motor that delivers up to 215 extra horsepower, depending on model choice.

This is what Car News China writes.

And BYD believes it can do more than just get far on the liter in the new hybrid cars. The Chinese say that the 1.5-liter petrol uses 46.06 percent of the energy.

Which is enough to make the engine the most energy efficient of its kind at all. That is, when you take into account what else is in production. The world's most efficient diesel engine was also invented by the Chinese. Even the German TUV has to admit that. Read more about it here.

Because BYD came on the scene with the new hybrid engine, Toyota sat on the throne. At least when it comes to utilizing the combustion engine's energy.

The Japanese have succeeded in utilizing 41 percent of the energy. While the V6 engines under the current Formula 1 regulations utilize just under 50 percent of the energy. Which – objectively speaking – is not very impressive.

What is the chance that we will see BYD's new hybrid cars in Denmark? Quite small. Not to say good as non-existent. The Danish importer only has the brand's electric cars on the program.

And although 2,100 kilometers on a full tank of petrol sounds impressive, BYD may be one of the brands that gets into big trouble due to the EU's upcoming punitive tariffs. The brand has received extremely large amounts of illegal state aid. Read more about it here.
