BMW took 2 years to find faults worth 7.5 billion kroner

BMW is currently recalling and detaining one and a half million cars worldwide. It took the Germans 2 years to discover the error behind it.

BMW is in huge trouble. The brand has recalled and detained one and a half million cars and stopped production at the Dingolfing factory.

All because of a fault in the brake system, which you get from the sub-supplier Continental. But BMW didn't know that two years ago.

In fact, BMW first became aware that there was a problem at all exactly two years ago. This is written by the financial media Bloomberg .

According to the media, however, it would take even longer, because BMW began to take the problem seriously with a more in-depth investigation. In February 2024, the German brand then thought it was enough to recall 80,000 cars.

However, it turned out to be far from sufficient. And now the assessment comes from several media – i.a. The Guardian – that the error will cost BMW up to 1 billion euros, corresponding to 7.5 billion kroner in repairs.

Cars from the entire BMW Group – including Mini and Rolls-Royce – are affected by the problem. The fault itself lies in the braking system, where a number of safety systems such as ABS and DSC can be disabled. If this happens, it may be necessary to press the brakes extra hard to get the car to react.

As Boosted has previously told, however, BMW is not aware that the fault has a fast lead to traffic accidents, personal injuries or fatalities.

However, the failure of the brakes is not the only one that BMW is struggling with at the moment. The brand has several problems with diesel cars catching fire. This also applies to cars driving around Denmark.
