BMW is mad at people who call the new M5 fat

BMW's M department themselves believe that they have designed the new M5 so that it cannot be felt that it weighs more than ever before.

With a weight of 2,444 kilograms, the new BMW M5 is no lightweight. In fact, the car has never been heavier.

Still, the BMW people are angry that the car outside the factory is not just considered but directly called overweight – fat in other words.

This is what M boss Frank van Meel says in an interview with BMW Blog . In the same interview, in which he makes it clear that the next M3 will also get the combustion engine, the M boss vents his frustration at the reception the car has received. Especially on the big internet.

In the interview, Frank van Meel believes that you cannot say anything about how a car performs based on numbers in 'an Excel sheet'. The CEO defends himself by saying that the M people have done a lot for and put passion into 'hiding the weight'.

In fact, the M-top considered whether to just take the plunge and leave the internal combustion engine entirely in the new M5 when it was under development.

Conversely, the Germans believe that the only way to keep the 4.4-liter V8 engine alive was to electrify the powertrain. And that unfortunately contributes significantly to the weight. But BMW does not think the criticism is entirely fair.

The new M5 shares an engine with a car that BMW generally has difficulty selling. In fact, sales have never really taken off. In fact, it just keeps falling. Read more about it here .
