Auto wrecker saves illegal Mercedes AMG from death

The owner of this illegal Mercedes C63 AMG was ready to let it suffer death. The wrecker was not.

A lot can happen when a car is moved from one country to another. And sometimes it goes wrong. Even horribly wrong.

This Mercedes C63 AMG originally came to the US from Switzerland – that is, with papers from a far less valuable C240 C-Class. The story goes that the company responsible for the import falsified the papers.

It went well – that is, for some time. Because when the car had to go through the annual, and not least legally required, emissions test in Illinois, the confusion in the papers – or whatever you want to call it – was discovered.

This is written by Road and Track , which has spoken to the employees of the wrecker where the car ended up.

The consequences ended up with the owner, who was faced with a difficult choice. Either the car could be scrapped in the country, or it had to be sent out of the country.

However, the Mercedes owner did not have the courage to export the C63 again. So he decided to send the car on the sure-to-be arduous trip to the wrecker.

But at Auto Parts City they didn't want to chop up the German muscle car. However, documents from the US motor office state that the car must never again be driven on US roads.

Not even if the model originally came to the country, mind you 'only' as a coupe and sedan. Fortunately, the story, which is a few months old before it reached the public, had a happy ending.

The wrecker succeeded in exporting the car out of the USA and back to Europe, where the authorities have no problem with it. Where the car ended up, however, the story does not say anything about it.

However, not all cars get off as graciously as it was the case for the Mercedes with the big V8 engine.

In 2019, the last Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution had to ever suffer death for a very absurd reason. Read more about it here .
