Audi's sales plummeted in 2024. Things were worst at home in Germany. In total, the brand is almost a quarter of a million cars behind compared to 2023.
Audi's sales figures for 2024 show a significant decline of almost a quarter of a million cars.
The decline comes after a record year in 2023 and is an expression of the challenges facing the European and especially the German automotive industry.
Sales of Audi cars fell by almost 12 percent in 2024 compared to the previous year. This corresponds to a decrease of 224,000 cars sold.
Sales of electric cars were also lower than in 2023, with a decrease of eight percent to 164,000 units sold. The German market in particular experienced a significant decline, with sales falling by over 20 percent.
Audi explains the decline with a generally difficult economic climate characterized by stagnation and structural problems.
The tense political situation globally further contributes to the challenges for the automotive industry and affects consumers' purchasing appetite.
– The record year 2023 was followed by a year in which 'the general economic environment was characterized by stagnation and structural problems '.
– But also that the tense political situation poses major challenges for the entire automotive industry. Something that affects consumers all over the world , writes Audi.
The decline in Audi's sales has led to concerns about possible job losses. According to Manager Magazin, Audi is expected to reduce the number of positions on its payroll by 2,000. At least in the medium term.
Boosted has previously reported that the Germans' Czech sister brand Skoda is now doing better in terms of sales. And even in its home country of Germany.
The media outlet also writes that the goal is to cut the workforce by a total of 15 percent, which in Germany alone would mean a reduction of around 4,500 positions.
It is expected that the cuts will primarily affect positions outside of direct car production, for example within development.
Audi's financial results for the third quarter of 2024 showed a significant drop in profit. This is due, among other things, to costs associated with the closure of the electric car factory in Brussels, where the Audi Q8 e-tron was produced.
Audi is far from the only one suffering, however. In fact, the entire automotive industry is under such pressure that layoffs and cuts are part of everyday life. There are a few exceptions, however. For example, one car brand alone has hired 200,000 new people in 3 months. Read more about it here .
