Another car brand says no – won't just build electric cars

In 2022, Lincoln, part of Ford, showed a bid for an electric SUV. But now the brand denies that it only wants to build electric cars.

The car – or rather the SUV – Star is still only a concept that Lincoln showed in connection with the Detroit Auto Show in 2022.

But now it is neither certain that the car will come to fruition, nor that Lincoln will commit to a one hundred percent electric model program.

For now, the brand says that it has shifted its focus away from the development of electric cars. Instead, Ford's premium brand, which is only available in a few other countries outside the US, will, among other things, China, focus on technological 'progress'.

The Detroit News writes that.

– We listen to what motorists really want. Navigator owners tend to do more driving on the car, so batteries don't make much sense, Lincoln CEO Dianne Craig told the media.

Craig emphasizes that Lincoln is seeing a change in the car market. But that it will look different and that it will also include hybrid, plug-in hybrids and electric cars.

However, Lincoln is just the latest in a long line of car brands that these days are stepping on the brakes when it comes to the development of electric cars.

Sales of the car type are not going as fast as the car brands had thought. And some of them, including Mercedes, can't get rid of the brand new cars at all.

In October last year, the American Mercedes dealers in particular said that the electric cars are indeed very difficult to sell.

– Our cars need to be something that motorists want. That's how it is with the S-Class.

– The model has a loyal customer group because it is something you work towards. An EQS (the electric S-Class, ed.) is not something people want to own, let it be from a dealer that Automotive News spoke with.

Since then, Mercedes has also had to strongly reconsider its entire electric car strategy, and now director Ola Källenius says that it will take many years for the electric car to compete with its fossil cousin.

Among other reasons, the brand is now extending the life of one of its models, which was or should have been buried this year.Read more about it here .
