Another car brand refuses to build only electric cars

Renault, like a number of other car brands, will not put all its eggs in one basket, and now the brand will build cars with internal combustion engines for at least one more decade.

For the foreseeable future – at least the next decade – Renault will stand on two legs. This means that the brand's customers have the choice between fossil and electric cars.

This is what the brand's director Fabrice Cambolive says according to Automotive News.

With the new strategy, Renault hopes to be able to adapt to a market where the demand for electric cars is significantly slower than expected.

The announcement from the Renault brand itself stands in stark contrast to the Renault group's announcement. Here, the group's director Luca de Meo predicted that the group will only have electric cars on the program as early as 2030.

Luca de Meo has also recently said that a number of European car brands apart from those in the Renault group would not object if the EU sticks to a ban on new cars with internal combustion engines. Read more about it here .

On the other hand, the car group has also said that it does not see a world in which fossil-fuel cars make up less than 40 percent of the market in 2040.

– For me, it's not just about building electric cars in 2030. We need to follow trends with two very competitive directions in our model range. To stand on both legs, says Cambolive.

Renault's decision means, among other things, that the new electric version of a Renault 5 will be sold side by side with the fossil car Renault Clio.

However, the French brand is not alone in finding the reverse gear when it comes to electric cars. Last week, Mercedes also stepped on the brakes. And at Toyota, they absolutely refuse to spend more money on electric cars. Read more about it here .
