According to the police, it is a waste of resources to hack down a camera trap with a metal bull. Because the bill only ends up in one place – namely with the taxpayers.
In Italy, a group of men were praised last year for cutting down speed cameras with angle grinders , and now an angry Swede has chopped down a speed camera with a metal bull.
It says NWT .
In Sweden, the camera trap was found lying on the ground early Wednesday morning. The police were notified at 8:30 a.m.
However, the authorities are a little tired of not only having to clean up the place but also set up a new camera trap. Because it's expensive.
– They cost a quarter of a million kroner each, so it is an extreme waste of tax money, says Lars Hedelin, press spokesman for the Bergslagen police region, to NWT.
Far from the first time that vandalism has hit the speed cameras
The police already believe that vandalism is behind it. But who may have done it, the police cannot yet say anything about.
This is not the first time that speed cameras have been cut in Sweden. Last year, a 20-year-old man was sentenced to prison for hiding 22 speed cameras under his bed.
The theft was initially discovered by the Swedish Transport Agency. At first, it was believed that the camera technology in the speed cameras was being sold to Russians who used them in drone attacks on Ukrainian soil.
This time, however, it may 'just' be a driver who has been provoked by stopping at a speed check.
– It happens that they (the speed cameras, ed.) are sabotaged and even stolen. In previous cases, a person has been both arrested and charged with the crime, explains Lars Hedelin to NWT.
Here in Denmark, there have also been several instances of reckless vandalism against speed cameras. It has been particularly the permanently mounted ones – so-called speed cameras – that have been affected.
But neither here nor in Sweden have the speed cameras been blown up yet. However, it has happened in Germany, where an angry motorist took 'matters into his own hands'. Find that story and many others about 112-drug on Boosted.dk every day – and always for free.
