Acquitted of driving 239 km/h – Audi owner gets to live anyway

A 20-year-old Audi owner was actually acquitted in the district court of driving 239 km/h. But now the verdict has been passed. The stall is, however, to be overlooked.

A 20-year-old Audi owner, who was measured at 239 km/h, was initially acquitted, but later convicted of a speeding offence.

The episode took place on the E4 north of Skellefteå one night in April last year, when the police were in the process of checking whether drivers were speeding.

According to the police's measurement, three cars per race, of which the first car was registered with a speed of 239 km/h.

This is written by SVT .

– I felt that they were speeding incredibly fast compared to the other cars that I measured the speed of earlier in the night, wrote the policeman who carried out the speed check in the police report.

The police eventually stopped an Audi RS5 that was being driven by a 20-year-old man. After the car was stopped, the man got out of the car and the police accused him of driving 239 km/h on a road with a speed limit of 110 km/h.

However, the man denied the charge and claimed that he was not the driver of the car at the time in question.

Furthermore, he argued that the speed could have been measured on another car. However, the police maintained that they had always had control over the measurement on the car and that it had not been possible to change the driver in the meantime.

– We have always had control over the car to such an extent that it has never had the opportunity to change drivers, the police report states.

However, the Skellefteå District Court initially acquitted the 20-year-old, as the court believed that there was insufficient evidence that it was his car that the police had measured.

But the case was appealed to Øvre Norrlands Ankeret, where the judgment was changed. The Court of Appeal concluded that the speed measurement had in fact been carried out on the defendant's car.

The 20-year-old man was then sentenced to pay a fine of 4,000 Swedish kroner for speeding. This corresponds to 2,610 Danish kroner. In addition, he lost his choir card for a long period.
