The scam goes all the way back to 2019 and involves the stolen identities of a total of 16 people, 15 different lease cars and a total of DKK 2.68 million.
– They have professionally set up a scam where they found cars they could make up, so it looked like the cars were better than they really were.
– And then they have found all sorts of ways to abuse the identity of random people, so it looked like they were leasing customers, says Maria Fano-Fredelokke, who is prosecuting the case in the district court, to Ritzau.
The two convicts have pleaded not guilty throughout. They now have 14 days to consider whether to appeal the verdict. The prosecution has the same.
It is not the first time that there have been convictions for fraud with cars in this country. In September 2021 , a psychic from Slagelse was convicted of extensive document forgery and tax fraud.
