Foreign countries wonder: "Denmark does not have this diesel"

Next week, the so-called 'winter diesel' will be filled in the tanks at more than half of the gas stations in Sweden. Diesel that is not available in Denmark.

Next week, petrol stations in northern Sweden will start filling the so-called 'winter diesel' in the stands around.

– Diesel is more sensitive to cold than petrol. This has resulted in diesel fuel having different carbon properties depending on the time of year in different parts of Europe, says Viktor Gunnarsson from the industry organization Drivkraft Sverige.

It is then also only the northernmost countries in Europe that use it. Blue. Sweden. Diesel can start to freeze already at minus 7 degrees, and although here in Denmark we also experience these kinds of temperatures, 'winter diesel' is nowhere to be found.

"Not even the Danes use it" as Swedish Carup notes.

– Diesel fuels have different cold resistance, and it is important that the filled fuel has the right properties, says Viktor Gunnarsson.

Winter diesel is not that much different from the diesel that is normally refueled in both Sweden and Denmark. But after 16 September, a number of additives are added to it, which make the fuel more resistant to the cold.

The addition of the additives typically makes diesel a bit more expensive in the winter. But the increase may be so marginal that it is not felt. The winter diesel 'disappears' again between March and April.
