Audi employees have stolen some for 200 new cars

In protest at the understandable closure of their workplace, employees at Audi's only factory in Belgium have stolen some for 200 new cars.

Audi cannot move 200 new electric cars. Some of them have been stolen in protest. However, the employees call it 'a seizure'.

– We appeal to all staff to use their common sense, says Audi's spokesman Peter D'hoore.

Conversely, staff claim that all the some are now kept 'in a safe place'. According to their union, the cars must now 'under no circumstances leave the factory, because the employees have been clearly informed about the fate of the factory'.

Conversely, Audi demands that all of the 200 cars be delivered by Monday afternoon at the latest. But according to the union leader at the factory, Jan Baetens, it is Audi's management that has sought a confrontation with the employees.

– If the management now wants to remove the cars, we cannot guarantee safety or security. It's a shame, and I fear negative reactions from the staff, says Baetens.

Actually, the Audi factory, which is one of the last two car factories in Belgium, should have reopened more than a week ago.

But after the Audi top made it clear that it will not build a new car in Belgium to replace the discontinued Q8 e-tron, employees have refused to resume work.

The employees' union has no doubt that the management intends to close the factory completely. Even though the employees have suggested that Audi can use the site for scrapping electric cars in the future.

On 16 September, a large protest demonstration has been organized in Belgium, which, among other things, the Audi employees participate in.
