500,000 employees threaten Volkswagen after bad news

The trade union IG Metall is now threatening Volkswagen's management with a strike among 500,000 employees if the car brand will not participate in constructive discussions about job security.

The German trade union is ready to throw a general strike among 500,000 Volkswagen employees on the table from November. And thus send the car brand into a crisis.

That's what Automotive News writes.

РJob security is part of the basic consensus that has been developed with the company specifically for times of crisis like this, says Thorsten Gr̦ger from IG Metall.

The threat comes after Volkswagen announced this week that it must save even more. The company has a debt of a staggering 3,200 billion Danish kroner, and according to the financial director, they are running out of time. Read more about it here .

During that time – i.e. to correct the economy – Volkswagen will, among other things, try to get by dropping the job security guarantee that the brand is currently boasting. The guarantee means that at least the factory employees cannot be so-called 'compulsorily fired' for 2029.

But that guarantee may not be worth more than the paper it is written on. The plans to fire a lot of employees come after Volkswagen has realized that it cannot sell nearly as many cars as before.

Last year, the group sold 9 million cars worldwide. But you have the capacity to build as many as 14 million cars. However, Volkswagen is not the only one that wants to fire people. The German gearbox manufacturer ZF lacks billions of kroner. Therefore, 14,000 men have to go off duty. Read more about it here .
