BMWs will change color by themselves in 2027, boss says

In three to five years, new BMWs will be able to change color by themselves. All it takes is a push of a button, says the boss behind the project.

Perhaps as early as 2027, BMWs will be able to change color by themselves. And if not there, then in five years at the most.

This is what the chief engineer behind the technology, Stella Clarke, tells the Australian Drive .

The so-called e-ink technology makes it possible to change the color tone of the car with the push of a single button. The principle is the same as already found in screens for tablets.

BMW's idea is that customers should be able to cope with, for example, extreme heat in the cabin on summer days. For example, by making a black car white to reflect the heat away from the car.

Other times, the technology can be useful by making it easier to spot the car in an otherwise jam-packed parking lot. But it will be far from a free round.

According to Stella Clarke, especially the first customers who choose this type of equipment will pay very dearly for the opportunity.

– The truth is that the technology will probably not be the most cost-effective in the beginning. So I could imagine that it will first be launched on a selected market and then offered to more in the future, says the chief engineer to Drive.

Something else the car brands are starting to talk about are the so-called solid state batteries. Preserved, talk about them they have done for several years. But now the Chinese low-cost brand MG believes that the technology will be ready in the first electric cars already next year. However, Nissan does not say until 2028. Read more about it here .
