Electric car caught fire in the middle of the night – owner woken up by loud bang

An electric car owner was woken on the night of Thursday this week by what must have been a huge bang. The cause turned out to be a fire.

The fire department in the southern German city of Winterberg in the state of Saarland was sent out to a residential area on the night of Thursday this week.

When they reached the place, an electric car, which shortly before had woken up the owner with a huge bang, was standing in bright light.

This is written by the Bild newspaper.

However, the owner of the car had managed to push the car away from the house and onto the road, so that the flames did not also reach the home.

Bernd Schmidt, who is the press spokesman for the fire service in Schiffweiler, says that because it was a fire in an electric car, they immediately got hold of a special fire blanket designed for the task.

– Due to the particular challenge of fires in electric corrals, a fire blanket specially designed for such operations was immediately requested.

The blanket was immediately pulled over the car and within two hours the flames were extinguished. However, the development was constantly followed and kept an eye on from some thermal cameras, according to the fire service.

The fire service can add that luckily no one was hurt. What, on the other hand, caused the flames to stand out from the electric car remains unclear.

Not all electric car owners are as lucky as the driver in Winterberg. One summer night in June 2023, a fire in a new Audi Q4 e-tron spread from the carport to a villa in Hirtshals. Neither house nor car could be saved. Read more about it here .
