MG changes its mind – electric car is revived as a hybrid car

The MG ZS is actually an electric car. But when it is now facelifted, the entire drivetrain is replaced with a combustion engine.

Chinese MG is one of the brands that is absolutely hardest hit by the punitive tariff that the EU places on all electric cars manufactured in China.

Whether this is why MG changes its mind and turns the electric car ZS into a hybrid car is hard to say. But the fact is that the facelift throws out the electric motor. Almost then.

The new MG ZS Hybrid+ has the same powertrain as the smaller sister MG3 Hybrid+. That is, a four-cylinder 1.5-litre petrol engine without turbo that produces 102 horsepower. The small electric motor adds an additional 136 horsepower to the total performance.

But MG's new hybrid will be no bundle of muscle. Like its sister car, the discipline is completed from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds. On the other hand, the car from land has a fuel economy of 20 km/l. So officially, common sense says that quite a lot must be subtracted from that number in order to get the real consumption.

The ZS has been sold as a pure electric car in Denmark. However, it is uncertain whether the hybrid relay will become part of the Danish model programme.

However, the British importer has already announced that the new hybrid car will be part of the model program there. And that at a price from 21,995 pounds, corresponding to just under 195,000 kroner.

As the tax system in England is very different from the Danish one, that price unfortunately does not say anything about a possible Danish level. Having said that, the MG will probably do very poorly if it becomes more expensive than the electric car, which costs from DKK 270,000.
