Tesla loses in court – must get rid of 1 million kroner

Tesla's customers have long run away from parking fees in loaner cars. Now the brand has to go into the pockets to cover the entire bill for the parking companies.

For a long time, Tesla in Norway only paid when customers in loaner cars ran away from parking taxes in Sweden. But recently the car brand had enough.

Ever since, the Swedish subsidiary has refused to pay the parking fees. But they have to, says the district court.

In the summer of 2022, Tesla stopped paying parking fees. But at the same time, you also do not want to hand over the names of the drivers you have lent cars to. Tesla believes this is a breach of privacy.

In fact, says Tesla, the fact that customers run away from parking charges is a risk that the parking companies themselves lob. Therefore, they also have to chase the motorists on their own. And it will be without help from Tesla.

But now the bill, which has grown to a total of 889,000 Norwegian kroner, equivalent to 560,000 Danish kroner – ended up on Tesla's table anyway.

This is what the Oslo district court writes in its sentencing, which Motor.no quotes.

– Tesla has disregarded a duty of loyalty towards Onepark and Riverty, writes Oslo City Court in its judgment, referring to the fact that the car brand knows very well who the drivers are.

In addition to the bill of NOK 889,000, Tesla must pay the costs of the case. This means own and the insurance company's legal bills. One of the companies alone has spent NOK 378,000 chasing Tesla.

The court also regards the case and thus the decision – which has gone against Tesla – as a test piece. The decision can thus form a so-called precedent – i.e. a basis – for future cases on similar issues.
