Danes hold back: "There is too much petrol"

In Sweden, it is not only diesel that is so cheap at the moment that it makes Danes hold on. Gasoline prices are falling as stocks are too full.

There is too much petrol in stock in Sweden.

That is why the price per liter is rattling down at the moment. On Wednesday morning this week, the price hit a provisional low of 16.5 Swedish kroner. This corresponds to 10.8 Danish kroner.

РThere is too much fuel on the market now, so the big petrol companies are trying to get rid of their stocks. This also lowers prices, says Jan Erik Mellstr̦m, who leases a petrol station in Karlskrona, to Carup .

The low price per liter has already prompted many Swedes to fill up the tank. And while that may lead some to fear that the price will soon rise again, there is no indication of that.

This is the opinion of both the head of the Swedish part of the Ingo chain and Jan Erik Mellström. Conversely, Sweden's government, which has reduced taxes on fuel to the EU's absolute minimum level, is looking at increasing the so-called reduction obligation.

If that happens, the country's petrol stations will be forced to mix even more of the so-called biofuel into ordinary petrol and diesel.

However, the proposal faces criticism from several sides. An increased amount of biofuel per liter of petrol/diesel will not only make the fuel more expensive for motorists. The opposition also calls it a climate hoax on the part of the government. Read more about it here .
