Hyundai confirms: Hydrogen-powered supercar to be built

Hyundai has taken a long time to make the decision – so long that the brand changed its mind several times along the way – but now the hydrogen-powered supercar is coming.

Hyundai Vision N 74 becomes reality. The South Korean car brand has finally made the decision to put the hydrogen-powered supercar into production.

It was confirmed at the brand's annual 'Investor Day', which just took place.

Incidentally, it also emerged here that Hyundai is changing course in general. At least when it comes to electric cars. Even if the Vision N 74 is actually an electric car.

However, the South Koreans probably still aim to build 2 million electric cars per year. But you are no longer so busy that it is the employees' only focus. On the contrary, massive investments must now also be made in hybrid cars. Read more about it here.

Back to the concept car, which is now becoming a reality. There is – unfortunately – not much to say yet. Because Hyundai has not wanted to confirm either the engine setup or anything else about the drivetrain.

But when the concept was presented in 2022, the South Koreans said it had a total of 671 horsepower and 900 newton meters from a total of two electric motors. However, a little more has been released since then.

Back in December 2023, it left that Hyundai will only build 100 copies of the car. 70 street cars and 30 for the race track. Something suggests, then, that it will not be a car that will stand on every street corner.

But the fact that Hyundai will build the car at all is something of a sensation. The brand has several times sent both current and former managers a trip to the media mall to deny all talk about the car. And yet something happens.

– We are Hyundai N. We do not make show cars. We want to make cars for the children, for the enthusiasts and at an affordable price. Also when it comes to track day capabilities, the now-retired Albert Biermann, whom Hyundai picked up from BMW M in 2014, told Carscoops .
