Braked at the last moment: 100,000s of BMWs affected by faults

In Germany alone, BMW must hold back the delivery of 175,000 cars. Faults have been found in the brake system in both new and old cars.

BMW has discovered a bug at the last moment. An error that in Germany alone means that 175,000 cars cannot be delivered to the otherwise waiting customers.

In the US, the number of cars that are braked for delivery is even higher. Here it is crazy with 278,000 cars. The error is the same as in Germany.

Specifically, a coke has formed in the car's brake system, which disables both the ABS brake and the electronic stabilization program, DSC.

If the cars had been let loose on the roads, the drivers would also find that they had to press harder on the pedal to brake at all.

According to CarExpert and BMW Blog, the fault can also be found in used BMWs. These cars are also now held at the various dealers until a solution has been found.

BMW in Germany confirms that the fault has been found. And the same is the case with the American importer, where the error is described as follows:

– The integrated brake module may not work properly. If a problem occurs, a warning light and a message appear in the car's infotainment.

– The braking system then returns to a certain point. The driver may notice that a harder press on the brake pedal is required to bring the car to a standstill or take off. This can also lead to an increased braking distance.

The following new cars from the BMW Group are currently being held back due to possible brake problems:

  • BMW 2 Active Tourer (U06)
  • BMW X1 (U11), BMW X1 long version (U12)
  • BMW X2 (U10)
  • BMW X5 (G05 LCI), BMW X5 M (F95 LCI), BMW X5 Long Version (G18)
  • BMW X6 (G06 LCI), BMW X6 M (F96 LCI)
  • BMW X7 (G07 LCI)
  • BMW XM (G09)
  • BMW 5 (G60), BMW 5er Touring (G61), BMW 5er Long version (G68)
  • BMW 7 Series (G70), BMW 7 Series Protection (G73)
  • Rolls-Royce Specter (RR25)
  • MINI Cooper (F66), MINI Cooper (J01)
  • MINI Countryman (U25)
