Danish demand for winter tires does not make sense, says agency

There shall be no requirement for winter tires in Denmark. Neither on cars, buses or trucks, says the Norwegian Transport Agency now.

There is very little point in requiring winter tires in Denmark. This is how it now sounds in a whoring response from the Norwegian Transport Agency.

An answer that Jyllands-Posten has come into possession of.

The Swedish Transport Agency writes that there is no evidence that winter tires will have 'significant importance for accessibility and safety'.

The board refers to figures from the Roads Directorate, which indicate that there are generally no more accidents on the roads in winter compared to other times of the year. For the same reason, no motorist – neither those in cars, trucks or buses – should be forced to wear winter tyres.

There were also several politicians in Christiansborg who wanted to see that, after the last winter, when several Danes skated around on the roads.

However, the authorities were also not good enough to clear the roads after accidents. Therefore, several motorists were stuck for several hours in very long queues on the motorways.

However, the government will not introduce any requirement for winter tires in Denmark. Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen (V) already rejected this months ago with reference to the fact that it would be too cumbersome to introduce such rules.

Nor has the Council for Safe Traffic or the interest organization DTL Danske Vognmænd wanted to introduce a legal requirement for winter tires in Denmark. And now the debate seems to have settled down with the Swedish Transport Agency's response.

However, that is not all that the Swedish Transport Agency has control over. The board has received particularly strong criticism after it took over responsibility for the choir card area from the police in October 2021. And there are indications that the administration in the area is still sailing in the board. Read more about it here .

It is, among other things, the choir teachers, who have been and still are, are out with harsh criticism of the Norwegian Transport Agency's administration of the rules in the choir card area. In April 2023, a number of choir teachers demonstrated right in front of the agency's headquarters in Ribe.
