Audi withdraws completely from famous motorsport

Audi will no longer support sports car racing. Therefore, development is now being withdrawn from new cars to concentrate on Formula 1.

Mercedes can do it, Audi can't.

At least not be present in both DTM and Formula 1. After this season, Audi will withdraw all factory support and development work for e.g. DTM.

This is written by Bild .

And at the most successful team in the current DTM format, ABT, they call it sad that Audi is now withdrawing. Thus, the 25th season with Audi cars will probably also be the last.

– I understand Audi's policy. Customer sports can be financed with relatively small funds. Plus, it (DTM's popularity, ed.) is booming right now. I cannot understand why it is all being overturned to participate in Formula 1, says DTM veteran Hans-Jürgen Abt.

But Audi has withdrawn. The street car on which the current DTM cars are based – namely the R8 – has been completely discontinued. And there are no plans for a replacement.

The only option, as Hans-Jürgen Abt sees it, is for the otherwise relatively new man on the post of Audi's managing director, Gernot Döllner, to withdraw completely.

– I don't think customers will like Audi's decision and even move to BMW or Mercedes. Bringing them back to the DTM is much more expensive than keeping the customer cars alive, he says.

All in all, Audi's involvement in motorsport is very messy at the moment. The brand has reportedly miscalculated so much that it was also about to withdraw from Formula 1 and was bought out by Sauber immediately for the 2024 season. Read more about it here .
