Now BMW wants to give people in petrol cars a guilty conscience

A new feature in BMW's own app is designed to tell people in the brand's diesel and petrol cars that they can easily get by with an electric car.

BMW probably won't admit it. But a new feature in the brand's smartphone app is designed to give petrol and diesel car owners a guilty conscience.

In any case, the app now tells BMW owners how they would have done in an electric car. That is, based on their corselsmonster.

BMW itself says that the function should make it easier for diesel and petrol owners to switch to an electric car.

The car brand says so in a press release .

The basis for the bad conscience comes from the driver's own data – i.e. traffic jams – combined with the amount of information BMW collects from owners of similar cars who also use the app.

However, the function in the app does not work immediately. BMW itself says that the owners must have cards for at least 200 trips, because the app is ready to make some concrete suggestions on how they can cope with an electric car.

BMW does not want to call the app bad style. Instead, it is called a help for the car owners. A help so that these can choose an electric car instead.

– Electric cars can already fit perfectly into many customers' daily routines, but the majority simply haven't tried it yet. Our app helps customers make a well-informed decision when choosing a powertrain, says BMW's head of digitization Dirk Wiedmann.

BMW has also added a number of other functions to their app. It is now possible to see what the electricity costs at the individual charging operator. Just as it is now possible to plan a route around motorways and toll roads.
