Crisis-ridden Volkswagen postpones expected electric car to 2032

The Volkswagen group's Trinity electric car project, which i.a. the new ID. Golf must be built on, delayed for another four years, writes German media.

There will be nothing of the Volkswagen group's electric car project Trinity, on which, among other things, the new ID.Golf is to be built, at least not for 2032.

It is allegedly the declining interest in electric cars, which sit directly on the demand, that causes the Volkswagen top to postpone the project.

This is written by the German Handelsblatt .

The postponement is not the first of its kind. As early as 2022, it emerged that Volkswagen was delaying the rollout of the platform, which will also divert the construction of entire factories, to 2028.

And now they add another four years to that deadline. According to Handelsblatt, the delay means that the current ID. family of cars will be kept alive even longer than originally planned.

If that happens, it is perfectly in line with the other plans that Volkswagen has up its sleeve at the moment. For example, the brand has confirmed that it is considering keeping the current petrol and diesel-powered Golf 8 alive for a very, very long time. Read more about it here .

However, the declining interest in electric cars is not the only thing that causes Volkswagen to step on the brakes once again. According to insider sources cited by the German media, there are serious concerns about the software that comes with the Trinity project.

At present, it is simply not at the point where Volkswagen will be able to have a flawless version ready in just 3.5 years. Volkswagen has had massive software problems in the past. It hit Danish ID.3 customers when VW sent that model on the market far too early.

Criticism of the model also revealed that Volkswagen in Denmark registered cars for itself in order to make the sales figures look better. DR revealed it in 2021.
