Huge company bankrupt – has several car brands as customers

The crisis in the car industry continues unabated. The latest victim is a giant company, whose customers such as Audi and BMW now have to look elsewhere for, among other things, inner screens.

New day, new bankruptcy in the automotive industry. On Monday this week, the German Mürdter Group filed for bankruptcy.

The company, which makes everything from inner fenders to chair backs, mandrel handles and plastic consoles for customers such as Audi, BMW, Porsche, Volkswagen and Volvo, has succumbed.

This is written by the newspaper Merkur.de .

The company, which has 585 employees on the payroll, already declared bankruptcy earlier this month when it became clear that there was no money to pay bills, wages or debt obligations.

Three years ago, the Mürdter group was sold to the British capital fund Quantum Capital Partners. But here they have not managed to make a healthy business out of existence as a sub-supplier in the car industry.

Saving companies from bankruptcy is becoming increasingly expensive and unattractive. Due to the uncertain sales and the general economic situation, potential investors are staying away, says Jonas Eckhardt, partner in the management consultancy Falkensteg, to Merkur.

However, it is not more than three years ago that the turnover in the company increased from 33.5 million euros to 40.8 million euros. In 2021, they came out with a profit of 5.5 million euros, but there are no more recent figures available from here. In any case, these are not publicly available.

However, there are indications that the surplus has turned into a glaring deficit. The company has not yet commented on the bankruptcy petition itself.

The Mürdter Group is so far from the first company in the German automotive industry to turn around. Most recently, it has emerged that the rim manufacturer BBS is facing the fifth bankruptcy in the company's history.

Recaro Automotive is heading in the same direction. This also applies to Fisker Inc. with Danish Henrik Fisker at the helm. And one Chinese competitor has already given up. Read more about it here .
