BMW has problems with the starter in more than 105,000 cars. The electronics can become overloaded and burst into flames.
BMW is now recalling over 105,000 cars to prevent them from burning up. There are problems with the start in the cars.
Specifically, the electronics run the risk of being overloaded if the car is tried to start too many times without success. This is the conclusion of the German brand after it first became aware of the problem in March 2023.
Carscoops writes that.
After complaints of engine fires and cars not starting, BMW engineers have come to the conclusion that some of the insulation material used in the engine compartment may be contaminated by oil spills. And that it is this oil spill that ultimately causes the flames.

In total, BMW is now recalling 105,588 cars, the majority of which are X5 models built between 2018 and 2020. These include, among other things, 68,000 copies of the sDrive40i and X5 xDrive40i, respectively.
But also the 3-Series, 7-Series and 8-Series, which were all built between 2020 and 2021, may be affected by the problem. They also have to take a trip past BMW's own workshops. The German brand will start recalling the first cars after September 23.
The entire cost of the repair, if there is anything to come, must be borne by BMW. However, the brand expects that a new software update that prevents the starter from being overloaded will be enough. But this must be installed by BMW's technicians.
Recalls are nothing new. In fact, this sort of thing is gradually becoming part of the order of the day. Tesla has just recalled 1.85 million cars because the flap to the front luggage compartment can cause great damage. Read more about it here .
