Arthur gave DKK 3,500 for 100 kilometers of electricity for the Audi

Several electric car owners have received absurdly large electricity bills over the summer. Arthur Kuijper paid DKK 3,500 to fill up 100 kilometers of electricity for his Audi.

As an electric car owner, it is not without significance which charging station you choose on the go. Arthur Kuijper has learned that the hard way.

He has paid 480 euros or the equivalent of 3,500 kroner for 100 kilometers of electricity for his Audi e-tron.

He tells this to the newspaper AD .

Arthur Kuijper, who had made the journey from the Netherlands to take a holiday, tells the newspaper that he feels cheated by the sky-high electricity prices.

Motorists in both Germany, Austria and others such as Arthur Kuijper in France have complained about the problem this summer. It all boils down to the fact that it is difficult to see what the electricity for electric cars actually costs in the various places.

Especially in hotels and at campsites around Europe, the price can be difficult to keep track of. And that's what has hit drivers like Arthur Kuijper.

In the case of the Dutch Audi owner, he has become the beneficiary of the extremely expensive electricity at a campsite in the French Pyrenees. And there is a very special reason for that, believes the Dutch answer to FDM, ANWB.

– In almost all cases, the rate per kilowatt hour is not particularly high.

– Instead, high time-related rates are charged. Leaving the car at the hotel overnight can easily be more expensive than the overnight stay itself, says the organisation's spokesperson Sanne Over.

Motorists on do-it-yourself holidays are certainly not the first to complain that electricity for electric cars is now really expensive.

The Norwegian NAF has recently documented that the current from certain charging stations for electric cars is approaching the price of diesel. Read more about that case here .
