The British will be allowed to drive 160 km/h on the motorway

In England, proposals have been made that the British should be allowed to drive 160 km/h on the country's motorways. However, not everyone likes the idea.

In England, a proposal to increase speed on motorways is now gaining support. Specifically, it is proposed to raise the speed limit to 160 km/h.

So far, the proposal has received more than 42,000 signatures. However, the proposal, which can be compared to citizens' proposals in Denmark, must have 100,000 signatures, because the parliament will take up the issue.

The proposal can be read in its entirety here .

But in concrete terms, the people behind it propose raising the speed limit on selected motorways in the country to 161 km/h, aka 100 miles per hour. So from the current 70 miles – 112 km/h -.

On two-lane motorways, however, the speed must be limited to 130 km/h, the proposal reads like that.

The people behind the proposal argue for raising the speed limit because modern cars are largely built for it. Also in terms of safety, where the car factories sacrifice money on everything from bigger brakes to numerous electronic safety systems.

Actually, the proposal did not manage to gather enough support for the deadline of 30 May, but because the English have recently got a new government, and therefore a new parliamentary composition, all citizens' proposals have been put on hold.

However, some Britons will be happy if the speed was increased to 130 km/h. The same as the relatively newly elected government in the Netherlands is actually planning at the moment.

At home, there has recently been a heated political debate about the speed on the motorways. Several elected politicians want to ban motorists from driving faster than 90 km/h on Denmark's more than 1,300 kilometer motorway network. Read more about it here .
