South Korea to ban electric cars in parking garages

Last week, 21 people were sent to hospital in South Korea when an electric Mercedes exploded, now the country will ban electric cars in parking garages.

There must be an end to electric cars in South Korea's parking garages.

The proposal was made by elected politician Song Eon-song, after an electric Mercedes exploded and burned for 8 hours in a parking garage last week.

The entire garage with 140 choir stalls was completely destroyed, and 21 people – including 7 children – were subsequently sent to hospital to be checked for roe poisoning. Read more about it here .

Eon-song's proposal already has a lot of support. This is written by the financial media Fortune . In South Korean cities, the population lives mainly in apartments, where motorists park in underground parking facilities. It is the fear of more firewood that gives the proposal wind in its sails.

It is not known whether it will actually become a total ban. But Mercedes-Benz in South Korea has so far refused to comment on the incident. The importer assures, however, that they cooperate with the authorities to map out the cause of the fire.

The importer has also apologized for the explosion to everyone in the apartment complex where the garage burned down. Just like the surrounding neighbors have been given an apology.

In the car where the fire started, there was an NMC battery from the Chinese manufacturer Farasis. In 2018, Mercedes bought into the company to further develop the battery technology, but big questions have already been raised about the safety of the batteries.

In China alone, cars with the batteries have also been recalled because there is a risk of the batteries starting to catch fire.
