The EU will ban the petrol car with e-fuel, warns BMW

The EU has nothing else in mind but to ban the internal combustion engine, although the union will allow the synthetic fuel, e-fuel, says BMW's CEO Oliver Zipse.

It is nothing more than a way to ban the combustion engine when the EU talks about allowing synthetic fuel, the so-called e-fuel, after 2035, when new combustion engines will otherwise be banned.

The warning from BMW's chief executive Oliver Zipse is so accurate. This is written by the BMW Blog .

The director in Munich himself is very positive about the synthetic petrol, which he believes will have an immediate and dramatic effect on CO2 emissions from private cars.

– The synthetic fuels will be able to immediately reduce CO2 emissions from the fleet of road transport vehicles in the EU, which numbers more than 250 million cars.

– Right now, however, it seems that e-fuel is being used as a trump card in the political debate about the ban on the internal combustion engine from 2035.

– There are many indications that the EU Commission is pursuing a solution where the ban on internal combustion engines is relaxed by allegedly opening up synthetic fuel. But that is not true, says Zipse.

The BMW director calls for the EU to do something to get the production of synthetic fuels up to speed. Otherwise, it will be the same as a total ban on everything but electric cars from 2035.

– We are still convinced that it is technologically wrong to ban the internal combustion engine. And we are determined to develop highly efficient combustion engines and technology for plug-in hybrids, says Zipse.

Unlike many of its competitors, BMW has refused to put an end date on the production of diesel and petrol cars throughout the debate about the internal combustion engine.

It may turn out to be just the right move. Because at the moment, other car brands are almost in a row to undo their own objectives to scrap the internal combustion engine. Most recently, Audi has announced that you cannot do without the technology by 2033 at the latest. Read more about it here .
