Unfortunately, Dodge's new electric car makes a false engine sound

Electric cars have to say something. They must actually be audible from a long distance, believes Dodge, which equips the new Charger Daytona with a fake engine sound.

It has no engine. At least not one that burns anything. Still, it sounds like it in the new Charger Daytona.

At long last, Dodge has set the ceiling for what is probably the final sound of the upcoming electric car. A car that replaces nothing less than the Dodge Charger and Challenger with a V8 engine.

One thing you have to give Dodge, though. The sound is markedly different from what the brand thought people wanted when the Charger Daytona SRT concept car was unveiled in 2022. Hear it yourself here .

However, the American Stellantis brand received so much criticism for the sound that they have been working on a new sound design ever since, and they think they are done with that now.

In any case, Dodge promises that the sound is now reminiscent of something you could find in real gasoline cars until as recently as this year, when the V8 engines went out of production.

Should you have forgotten what Dodge promises more specifically, here is a small outline. The new Charger Daytona initially gets 503 horsepower, but there is up to 670 horsepower to come after, if you tick the right boxes when the sale of the car begins.

The Scat Pack, which Dodge calls the extra equipment, should make the car go from 0 to 100 km/h in just under 3.5 seconds. Mostly because 0 to 60 miles (0-96 km/h) is already confirmed in a time of 3.3 seconds.
