Came into force on 1 July – here are all the new choir card rules

On 1 July, the rules in the choir card area got a proper overhaul. 12 initiatives are to improve the road map area, according to the Danish Transport Agency.

It's no secret, and in fact there have been new rules in the choir card area since 1 July 2024.

But it's a big deal. In fact, rule changes cover 12 initiatives that the Ministry of Transport has agreed with the choral teachers' associations in Denmark.

Among other things, new drivers – and those who need to re-acquire – can now take their driver's license in a car with automatic transmission. Also without getting the little 'code 78' printed on the physical card.

The code has otherwise meant that motorists were only allowed to drive in cars with automatic transmission. But that rule is a thing of the past now. The only requirement is that you as a driver must familiarize yourself with cars that have a manual transmission. In practical terms, this means 7 hours of driving time in a car with a manual transmission.

For the time being, the change is only an attempt. The same is true of the choral test in several languages. In the past there has been an interpreter. But these are now gone, because choir rehearsals in Denmark can now take place in Greenlandic, German, English, Faroese and, of course, Danish.

Furthermore, from 15 August it will be possible to punish choir school students who cheat on either the practical or theoretical test in connection with choir lessons more severely.

All the new rules in the choir card area after 1 July 2024:

Introduction of waiting periods with effect from 15 August 2024
Pupils who acquire a choir card for category B for the first time and do not pass a practical test are excluded from taking a new practical test, because seven days have passed. The aim is to reduce exam waste and ensure that choir card applicants who do not have the necessary skills do not sit for choir exams again, because they have had the opportunity to improve their skills.

In addition, a waiting period of six months is introduced for choir card applicants who cheat or otherwise circumvent the rules in order to take choir exams. This means that applicants can go up for a new choir rehearsal six months after the last choir rehearsal at the earliest. The sanctions for cheating are being tightened, as the existing measures are not sufficient.

The waiting period only means that the student cannot take a theoretical or practical test during the period. It is therefore possible for the choir student to continue or resume choir lessons during the grace period.

Introduction of trial scheme with code 78 with effect from 1 July 2024
A trial scheme is being introduced, which makes it possible to carry out part of the choir lessons and take choir tests in a car with automatic transmission, without the choir card being affixed with code 78, which limits the privilege to only apply to choir vehicles with automatic transmission.

The trial scheme also provides the opportunity to have code 78 removed from the choir card on the basis of completed choir lessons.

Taking choir tests in Danish, English, Greenlandic, Faroese and German in the Danish-German border area with effect from 1 January 2025
From now on, the chorus test can only be conducted in either Danish or English by the Norwegian Transport Agency's test experts. This means that the current option to use an interpreter will no longer be available. There will be special measures in relation to taking tests in German in Tonder, Haderslev, Aabenraa and Sonderborg municipalities, as well as in Faroese and Greenlandic.

The limitation of the languages in which choral tests can be conducted is intended to promote and support more efficient test execution.

Supervision of choir technical facilities
The Norwegian Transport Agency has found certain inadequacies in connection with the rules on supervision of the closed rehearsal spaces and choral technical facilities used in connection with choral education.

The inadequacies consist in the fact that, even though the coring card order contains requirements for the Norwegian Transport Agency's approval of both types of facilities, there is no uniform regulatory basis for the agency's subsequent supervision of the two types of coring facilities.

Against this background, a provision is introduced that the Norwegian Transport Agency also supervises road engineering facilities, and it is also clarified that the agency can revoke a notified approval of the facility.

Adjustment of section 33
Adjustment of section 33 establishes that the Swedish Transport Agency owns the release for the digital medical certificate.

The proclamation enters into force on 1 July 2024.
