The total number of new cars in July 2024 is on par with the figures from the same period last year. But now more than half of them run on electricity.
52 percent, or more than half of all new cars in Denmark that hit the road in July run on electricity.
This is shown by a new report from the Danish car importers' association, Mobility Denmark.
A total of 11,517 cars were sold in Denmark during the period. It is 5,988 of them – or 52 percent – who sing exclusively on electricity.
– Car sales will maintain a good level in 2024. This indicates that the demand for new passenger cars is still there, and we expect it to increase towards the turn of the year, so that 2024 will be a sensible car year, says Mads Rorvig, managing director of Mobility Denmark, in a press release .

According to figures from bilstatistik.dk, the most popular car model in the month of July is the Volkswagen ID.4. 655 copies of them were sold. This is followed by the Tesla Model Y, while the petrol hybrid Renault Austral squeezes into third place with 438 registrations.
It is difficult to predict how long the electric cars will be protected in terms of tax. But the parties behind the Finance Act, which applies to 2024, have already agreed that the minimum deduction for electric cars will not be tampered with in 2025 either. That was the plan otherwise.
However, it is still the government's intention that there should not be a single kroner in tax rebates on electric cars when the calendar says 2035.
By then, it will not be possible to register anything other than electric cars in Denmark, because the country is a member of the EU. The Union bans new petrol and diesel cars in 2035. If they cannot rely on synthetic fuel, the so-called e-fuel.
On the other hand, both Mobility Denmark and Dansk Industri were happy to see that the politicians in Christiansborg kept the taxes calm for even longer.
Director of Danish Industry Thomas Moller Sorensen fears that the Danes will lose interest in electric cars if this does not happen. Read more about the case here .
In Germany, there are already massive signs that electric cars with tax are not something drivers want to pay for. In any case, sales of new electric cars have fallen for the sixth month in a row. There are no figures for July yet.
