They are responsible if a hole in the road destroys the car

If you smash a rim or something else on the car, who is really responsible? The answer is not clear, says the insurance company.

It is not just the snowy weather that has created challenges for Danish motorists here in January. The harsh weather also leaves a different mark on the roads.

The change between two and freezing weather causes the asphalt to suffer damage. It has already happened in several places in the country.

But who is actually responsible if motorists roll a rim over a hole in the road? According to the insurance company Gjensidige, responsibility typically lies with the Road Directorate or the individual municipality.

This is written by TV2 .

The individual initiatives are responsible for national and motorway roads and the ordinary roads in and outside the cities.

According to Gjensidige, an assessment is needed, because it can be said whether a hole in the road constitutes a danger to traffic.

But if, for example, a municipality has already assessed the damaged asphalt and concluded that it poses no risk, there is usually no compensation to be obtained.

However, the damage can also be the individual driver's own fault. It can be when the speed is too high.

In one place, however, the Road Directorate cannot avoid responsibility. Department manager Maria Sande already acknowledged this to Boosted back in September 2022. Read more about it here .
