Sebastian owns a 340 Saab – likes the brand very much

Sebastian Heuschmid stands with his father Johan in a Saab workshop. Together they have 340 cars and one more generation on their way into the company.

Johan and Sebastian Heushmid are not just father and son. Johan worked as a rally choir in the 1980s, and then they own perhaps Germany's largest collection of Saab cars.

Because even though the brand no longer exists, people from all over Germany still come in Saab models to have them serviced and repaired at the workshop located in Obergünzburg in southern Bavaria.

– Right now we have around 340 Saabs in stock.

– There are still many people in Germany who love Saab and love the brand very much, says Sebastian Heuschmid.

However, it is not just the service department that father and son keep alive. From the workshop in Obergünzburg, around 100 cars are also sold a year.

Here, says Sebastian Heuschmid, it is important to be well prepared. Because customers often come from far and wide to buy a car.

However, Danes do not need to travel all the way to Germany to get a nostalgic Saab rush. Almost like that. Per Vodder has been tinkering with Saab since 1998 in the Sonderjut city.

By the way, did you know that the last car with the Saab logo was ever bought by a Dane? It is good enough. It was Danish Claus Spanggaard who paid the most for the car, a Saab 9-5, when it was auctioned off in 2019. Read more about the car here .

Back home in Saab-land, i.e. Sweden, a rare museum dedicated to the brand is facing closure. The last opening day is August 8, 2024. People can subsequently buy the cars from the collection. But to get the cars out, the museum must be demolished. Read why here .
