Denmark's cheapest electric car is delayed for several months

With a starting price of DKK 179,990, the Citroën ë-C3 will be Denmark's cheapest electric car. But now it is delayed for several months.

Citroën had actually hoped to beat arch-rivals Renault at the finish line. But now the two French car brands are sending their electric cars onto the street at the same time.

The Citroën ë-C3 will be delayed by several months. Citroën has major software problems, just as the French brand lacks parts for the cars.

That's what Automotive News writes.

The new Citroën ë-C3 has a price of DKK 179,990 here at home. According to Stellantis, who owns Citroën, the car is an important weapon against the Chinese car manufacturers, who are throwing around cheap electric cars to enter the European car market.

Brand new figures also show that the number of Chinese electric cars in Europe has never been higher than it is right now. Led by MG and the MG4 model, over a quarter of a million Chinese electric cars were registered in Europe in June.

The record high number of Chinese electric cars must, however, be seen in the light of the Chinese brands' fear of punitive tariffs on the cars. A duty which turned out to hit with up to 38.1 percent.

Among the brands that will be hit by the highest tariff rate is also the brand that sells the most electric cars to Europeans. In Germany, the MG4 is the best-selling electric car.

But because MG's parent company, SAIC, has refused to cooperate with the EU when investigating illegal state aid to the Chinese car manufacturers, MG must pay the highest tariff rate from now until at least October, when the punitive tariff must be negotiated permanently in place.

Citroën ë-C3 gets a WLTP range of 320 kilometers with a 44 kWh battery. The car is front-wheel drive and produces 113 horsepower.

However, the top model, the Citroën ë-C3 VTR Sport, will not be much more expensive. For DKK 199,990 you get a car with acoustic glass, heated steering wheel, navigation, air conditioning and tinted windows.

Actually, Citroën had hoped to be able to beat Renault at the finish line when it comes to the launch of the revived Renault 5, R5 E-Tech. But now both cars are sent onto the street at the same time. Both cars are said to be ready for delivery in the autumn.

However, Stellantis alias Citroën can take comfort in the fact that so far 30,000 pre-orders have been placed for the ë-C3. And good news is needed.

The group's latest half-year accounts show a profit of DKK 5.6 billion. Euro. But that is 48 percent less than the year before. This may mean that Stellantis closes several car brands. Read more about it here .
