Tesla now warns drivers against wet towels

Tesla is now going straight out and warning the owners of the brand's cars against putting wet – or at least damp – towels on charging cables for supercharger charging stations.

There is no benefit in wrapping a wet towel around the charging cable of a supercharger.

This is what the official warning from Tesla now sounds like, after months when several Tesla owners have otherwise claimed that a wet/damp towel significantly increases the charging effect.

But there is nothing to come after. On the contrary, the warning now comes from Tesla's official account on the social media " X ", which is owned by the car brand's director Elon Musk.

The wet towels do not increase the charging effect of a supercharger, but on the contrary risk damaging the technology behind the charging stand.

The error occurs, Tesla says, when/if the charger's temperature gauge gets confused by the damp, and therefore cool, towel. This can disable the built-in temperature gauge and the mechanisms against overheating that the sensor can trigger.

Otherwise, there are many, also very prominent profiles on social media who claim to have the trick and that it works. But Tesla now denies that.

Owners who put wet towels around the charging cables themselves in the hope of speeding up charging actually just risk making things worse. That is, because the temperature sensor and its other mechanisms become 'confused'.

That, writes Tesla, can in itself trigger an overheating. Something that the supercharger stands are otherwise built to withstand. By the way, did you know that the largest collection of Superchargers in all of Europe is to be erected in Denmark? Read more about it here .
