Important "Porsche factory" shuts down after disaster

Porsche must recognize that 2024 will be a worse year than before, at least financially. Problems with a sub-supplier cut production significantly.

Porsche has had to significantly cut production at its factories. At the same time, the brand is already warning that you will come out of 2024 worse off, at least financially.

The problems are due to flooding at a factory belonging to one of Porsche's important aluminum suppliers in Switzerland.

Porsche already estimates that the floods will cost both sales and earnings. The latter is expected to shrink by up to DKK 12.5 billion.

From the analysis firm Bernstein, the assessment is that between 10,000 and 17,400 fewer cars will be produced as a result of the delivery problems in Switzerland.

The same media refers to Bernstein, who believes he knows that Porsche is very dependent on aluminum supplies from Switzerland. And when things don't go as planned, there is no other choice but to stop the assembly lines.

Already at the end of June, Porsche announced that the production problems will reduce the expected profit by between 6 and 12.5 billion Danish kroner. So a loss that cannot avoid affecting the bottom line.

However, Porsche is not the only brand that has been and is affected by problems stemming from the supply chain. Audi had to immediately close a factory when Germany was hit by severe floods back in June, which cost human lives. Read more about it here .

At Porsche in Zuffenhausen, however, you are not only fighting against the forces of nature. There is also internal disagreement among the shareholders about the direction of the car brand. One of the major shareholders believes that Porsche builds far too many electric cars.

The announcement comes in the wake of the massive value losses experienced by the owners of the Taycan electric car. For example, the facelifted version of the car lost almost a quarter of a million kroner in value after just 28 days on the market. Read more about it here .
