Rivian now takes payment for some for brand new cars

The physical some are now optional equipment. At least at Rivian, where customers now have to pay extra to get a physical one for their cars.

Physical some have become optional equipment. At least at American Rivian, where customers are now being forced to pay extra for physical parts for brand new cars.

The facelifted version of the Rivian R1 does not come with any at all. So not a physical one of the kind.

Instead, customers must pay extra for it. It was just not something Rivian told the outside world when presenting the facelifted R1.

That's what The Drive writes.

And the physical some is actually not something Rivian customers can get at all yet. It will first be an option in the so-called Rivian Gear Shop 'at a later date'.

This appears from a correspondence that a Rivian owner has had with the brand's customer service. A correspondence he has since shared on the social media Reddit.

In the Rivianist forum, other owners also point out that you can actually only unlock a Rivian as long as your mobile is connected to a mobile network. If there is no signal, or power on the mobile phone for that matter, Rivian owners can forget about using their cars.

Even Tesla, which is otherwise known for saving most things away in the cabin, has not reached the point where the physical card is a thing of the past. But Rivian believes that it is the right thing to do.

Very apropos, Rivian is now officially betting the brand on a launch in Europe. However, the announcement comes at a time when the brand is being sued by Tesla and losing huge sums every time a new car leaves the assembly line. Read more about it here .
