Toyota is replacing the engine in 102,000 cars with a fatal flaw

It is not enough to replace parts. Toyota is now forced to replace the entire engine in all 102,000 cars affected by the same fault.

Toyota to replace 102,000 3.5-liter V6 engines. The number of registered faults on that particular engine has increased so significantly that the Japanese have no choice.

That's what The Drive writes.

The engine is in the Toyota Tundra and Lexus LX. When the recall first became public knowledge back in May, the Japanese could not confirm the reason.

But they can now that several engines with the fault have been taken apart. It turns out that some metal inside the engine itself tears loose and thus destroys it from the inside.

The owners initially feel the fault as an unusually hard engine run, because the cars can suddenly go out and completely break under the traffic.

Toyota itself believes that it has localized the fault to versions of the Toyota Tundra and the similar Lexus LX that run on gasoline, and which were manufactured between 2022 and 2023. The hybrid versions, where the gasoline engine is assisted by an electric motor, are not covered by the recall so far .

Any Tundra or LX owner whose car may be affected by the defect will receive a new engine free of charge from Toyota. If you own a car affected by the fatal engine fault, information is available on the brand's website.

Neither Tundra nor Lexus LX is sold in Denmark. But the cars can easily be parallel imported for that reason.

Incidentally, this is not the first time Toyota is in trouble this year. The brand is currently in something of a scandal after being caught cheating on security. Read more about it here .
