Porsche promises to keep the V8 engine alive after 2030

The V8 engine is not going anywhere. At least not for the time being, if you ask Porsche, which is still betting heavily on the petrol engine after 2030.

There is no need to fear for the survival of the V8 engine. It is not going anywhere. At least not according to Porsche.

The German brand now says that it wants a V8-powered Cayenne also after 2030. In fact, the current model must be updated so that it can be built alongside the electric version into the next decade.

This is stated by the German brand in a press release .

Thus, when we reach 2030, the Cayenne will be available with three powertrains. An all-electric, a pure petrol V8 engine and then a hybrid variant.

However, this does not mean that Porsche throws away the goal that the model program consists of 80 percent electric cars. But director Oliver Blume, who is also in charge of the entire Volkswagen Group, says it depends on the customers.

In other words, Porsche will only be able to live up to its own goal of almost eliminating the internal combustion engine if there are enough customers in electric cars.

The first all-electric Cayenne is already on the roads. But it's still like a well-camouflaged prototype. Porsche does not expect to be able to start series production for a few years. It is therefore not known when the first customers can get the cars delivered.

Conversely, Porsche is far from the only car brand that these days is backing out of targets when it comes to electric cars. Ford is just one of the brands that has had to drop the plan to only sell electric cars in Europe by 2030 at the latest. Read more about it here .
