16-year-old short 163 km/h BMW – parents get 3 years in prison

A 16-year-old boy faces up to 15 years in prison for killing his girlfriend in a car accident. His parents have already received 3 years probation.

A couple of parents of a boy who is only 16 years old do not just risk that their son will spend the almost 15 years behind bars. The parents have also already been punished.

All because they let the son drive the car on a May day in 2023. The car, a 2005 BMW 325i, was doing 163 km/h in a 50-zone when the 16-year-old hit a UPS delivery truck.

The New Tork Times writes that.

While the son's fate has not yet been decided, his parents have already received their punishment for the accident that claimed the life of their daughter-in-law.

The 16-year-old boy survived the accident with minor injuries, while the girlfriend was thrown from the car and died on the spot. The way the law in New York is screwed up, the boy's parents can be punished for complicity in the accident, even if they weren't even in the car.

The parents have already pleaded guilty. They have both been given a suspended sentence of three years in prison on the condition that they complete a parenting course.

– With this verdict, it is established that responsibility in such accidents can extend to others than the driver, says public prosecutor Melinda Katz to the New York Times.

Unfortunately, it is far from the first time that very young drivers have been seriously injured – and worse – in car accidents.

Boosted was recently able to tell about an 18-year-old woman who, after having had a choir card for just three months, now owes her father a Tesla. She smashed it with 157 km/h.Read more about it here .
