E-fuel is the future, says Ferrari's director now

In a new interview with Autocar, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna opens the door to what the brand believes is the future. Namely e-fuel in cars with a combustion engine.

E-fuel – or synthetic fuel – is the future.

At least if you ask Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna. In an interview with Autocar, Vigna made it clear that there is really no way around e-fuel.

– We do not believe that the time for cars with internal combustion engines is over and it will go through the development of e-fuels, says Benedetto Vigna according to Autocar .

Instead, the director points out that Ferrari will launch future models that can run on synthetic gasoline without problems. The Italians thus align themselves with Koenigsegg in Sweden.

At the factory in Ängelholm, it was not many years ago that the idea of an electric car with 2,000 horsepower was floated. But the idea has been shelved again. Precisely because of the possibilities in synthetic gasoline that the Swedes believe they can see.

– It is total madness that the major car manufacturers are not looking more at those solutions. There is not enough renewable fuel for everyone to run on it all the time.

– But if you do most of the trip on electricity, you don't need much e85 or HVO100. A plug-in hybrid that runs on HVO100 when it is not running on electricity is the very best thing for the climate, says the brand's founder Christian von Koenigsegg to the Swedish media Carup.

Back at Ferrari in Maranello, director Vigna will not rule out that hydrogen cars may play a role in the future model program. But this is something that Ferrari only envisages after 2030.

It is not the first time that the Ferrari director has spoken warmly about and in favor of synthetic fuels. Already last year, he pointed out that the fuel could help reduce the car industry's total CO2 emissions.

However, it does not need to be in Ferrari's price range for synthetic petrol – i.e. e-fuel – to apply. The world's fourth largest car manufacturer, Stellantis, has said that it has already built 28 million cars that can run on e-fuel without any problems. Read more about it here .
