Tesla's promised super battery is delayed by 4 years

Tesla's new 4680 batteries were supposed to revolutionize the electric car. But after four years, no one outside the car brand has seen anything about the production. Now Elon Musk has issued an ultimatum.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has reportedly given his employees an ultimatum. Series production of the so-called 4680 battery is to begin this year.

Otherwise… Yes, otherwise it will be five years since Tesla promised the outside world that the battery would charge in the brand's cars.

According to information which media The Information brings, the battery department has been told by Tesla's managing director that if they do not succeed in producing tor-coated electrodes before the end of 2024, the project, and thus their workplace, will be completely shut down.

If that happens, it will not be the first time that Elon Musk empties a Tesla department entirely for employees. Back in April, Musk fired all employees in the Supercharger department. A decision he quickly regretted again.

However, this does not mean that all employees have returned to their jobs. Far from actually. Because even if Tesla is looking for people again, there are far from enough positions to fill in after a total of 14,000 layoffs in April.

Today, Tesla actually already puts the 4680 battery in the Cybertruck. But it is a hybrid solution that does not quite live up to what the brand promised four years ago.

If Tesla fails to make the batteries, you will still be able to buy the battery type from sub-suppliers. But how much the car brand has to pay for this kind of thing is not known.

There must, among other things, be to avoid large bills to subcontractors that pressure the Tesla top to come up with a deadline.

As it is right now, Tesla spends both a lot of money and large amounts of energy to dry its so-called wet-coated battery electrodes in large ovens. This is the process you want to avoid.

Another way to make batteries isn't the only method Tesla may have to abandon. Gigacasting, which the American car brand is otherwise a pioneer in, is also hanging on by a thin thread. Read more about it here .
