Now Kia's electric cars get Hyundai's fake engine sound

Hyundai already indulges in fake engine noise and equally artificial gear changes. Now sister brand Kia is jumping on board with the idea.

The Kia EV6 GT will be the first Kia to sin quite openly. The car, which at least the American dealers have had more than a hard time selling without big discounts, now gets a fake engine sound.

The same applies to fake gear changes. The technology comes from sister brand Hyundai, where it is already used in the Ioniq 5 N.

Here, owners can turn on a simulated seven-speed gearbox and fake engine sound. And these are the functions that Kia is now bringing over in the EV6 GT. At least to begin with.

A Kia spokesperson confirms this to Carscoops .

The South Korean brand has already shown a facelifted version of the EV6. However, we have yet to see the new version of the GT model. But what does the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N have that the Kia doesn't yet have?

More horsepower. Simply. On paper, the Ioniq 5 N has 650 horsepower. But it is only in intervals of 10 seconds that they are all available in a so-called overboost function.

Normally, Hyundai owners have to 'get by' with 609 horsepower. That's the kind of horsepower the facelifted version of the EV6 GT is expected to get. That is, in addition to fake gear changes and an equally fake engine sound.

However, the South Koreans' move is nothing new. In fact, several fossil-fuel cars use exactly the same thing. Both BMW and Audi have been doing it for several years. And Mercedes does exactly the same.

In fact, the brand from Stuttgart considered giving the electric version of the G-Class a fake engine sound. It should have reminded me of the sounds a V8 engine makes. However, the idea was dropped again.
